Head Coach B.J. Graham is a U.S. Masters Swimming Level 3 Coach, recognized with the 2022 Florida LMSC Coach of the Year award and the 2022 U.S. Masters Kerry O'Brien Coaches Award. In 2023, B.J. joined the USMS National Coaches Committee, bringing his extensive experience and passion to a national level.
B.J. began his competitive swimming journey in the Melbourne area with Brevard Swim Association under Terry Schlichenmaier and later swam at Indian River State College and the University of Florida, training under renowned coaches Gregg Troy and Anthony Nesty. His athletic accomplishments include, the 1996 NJCAA National Champion in the 100-yard butterfly, a three-time NJCAA All-American, a USA Swimming Senior National competitor, and an IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships competitor. He has also achieved multiple sprint and Olympic distance triathlon overall wins, earned multiple USAT All-American honors, a YMCA Masters National Champion, and won the 2019 Swim Around Key West (12.5 miles) Masters title 40+.
In the summer of 2024, B.J. became a Regional Grown-Up, launching the Grown-Up Swimming Space Coast League. Grown-Up Swimming is a national organization that specializes in fun summer league-style swim meets for adults of all ages and abilities.
Coach B.J. is a constant student of the sport, always learning and evolving his coaching techniques to better serve his swimmers. He understands that swimmers have diverse motivations and goals, from general health and fitness to competitive aspirations. B.J. believes that every swim season needs a purpose and is more than just a series of swim workouts; it should be a cohesive and well-planned training season designed to challenge and meet the swimmer’s needs, making it more sustainable and rewarding over the long term.
What sets Coach B.J. apart is his success in both sprint and long-distance events, combined with his deep love for the sport of swimming and his dedication to coaching. On deck, B.J. brings a unique blend of expertise, enthusiasm, and dedication, making every session both challenging and rewarding for his swimmers.
