Over the years, we have received numerous requests for private swim lessons at our training pool. Unfortunately, our pool use permit contains specific language that prohibits conducting swim lessons on-site. The City does not issue permits for swim lessons only swim practice. This is the reason why Swim Melbourne Masters can not offer one on one swim lessons or an Adult Learn to Swim Program.
Additionally, other municipal and health club pools in the area restrict coaching or instruction during open swim times. Consequently, aside from our swim team practices, there are no competition size pools nearby where we can offer individual coaching or swim instruction.
These restrictions are disappointing, as we are eager to provide personalized, one-on-one instruction to swimmers in need. Incorporating video analysis and video replay are tools that can significantly enhance swimmers' performance. Additionally, we have two USMS Adult Learn to Swim (ALTS) instructors in our coaching line up, nationally certified to teach adults how to swim, but such activities remain prohibited.
A Vision for the Future
Despite these challenges, there is hope. This situation presents an excellent opportunity to realize the vision of the Swim Melbourne Foundation:
“Our vision is to build a state-of-the-art aquatic center in Brevard County. Funds raised will support the Swim Melbourne Foundation—a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sport of swimming for families in Brevard. Located in Palm Shores, the aquatic center will feature a 10-lane competition pool and a 3-lane teaching pool. The competition pool will serve as the training facility for the Swim Melbourne Mahi age group and masters teams, aiming to develop national-class programs. The teaching pool will attract young families for swim lessons and host adult fitness classes, water aerobics, rehabilitation, and triathlon training.”
By supporting the Swim Melbourne Foundation, you are helping us create a comprehensive facility that caters to swimmers of all ages and skill levels. This will foster a vibrant and supportive swimming community in Brevard County, that includes an Adult Learn to Swim Program and where you can receive all the private swim lessons you desire.
